Welcome to the ‘Mid-Year Book Freak Out’ Tag. This seemed like a nice way to wrap up the first half of the year so here we go!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2016.

I absolutely love this series. It has a great magic system and I flew through the 700+ pages. You can check out my review here. Read more

Day Four:Winter Biannual Bibliathon

Day Four:Winter Biannual Bibliathon

I have just finished day four of my read-a-thon and I am having so much fun! It’s great to devote so much time reading excellent books. Yesterday I managed to finish The Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. Just. I was falling asleep as I cracked the final ten or so pages  and had to make myself stay awake to finish.

The book was a phenomenal sequel. I was completely captivated by the first novel The Queen of the Tearling (you can read my review here) but I wanted to know more about the world to explain why things had progressed the way they did. This book explained everything with excellent flashback scenes that tell the tale of what was happening less than a hundred years from now. It was great seeing Johansen’s vision of what our future is like and I’m completely satisfied with her world building. The characters were also fleshed out some more in this novel and I was pleased to see that Johansen is not afraid to give some of them a much darker tone. The plot was exciting, full of mystery, magic and chaos. I seriously recommend this series to anyone who likes fantasy with a slightly political feel. I gave this book 5/5 stars.

Today (day five) I am starting The Rook by Daniel O’Malley for the ‘judge a book by it’s cover’ challenge so I have absolutely no idea what it’s about!

The Winter Biannual Bibliathon

The Winter Biannual Bibliathon

I have decided to take part in the Winter Biannual Bibliathon being hosted on YouTube. It is a seven day read-a-thon (Sunday 3rd January – Saturday 9th January) that consists of a series of reading and video challenges. I will just be doing the reading challenges and plan to post daily about my progress.

The Challenges

  1. Read the group book – Soundless by Richelle Mead
  2. Read a book that has been on your shelf for over a year
  3. Read a book with more than 300 pages
  4. Read a book from your favourite genre
  5. Reread a book from a favourite series
  6. Judge a book by its cover
  7. Read a book that has been recommended to you more than once

I thought these challenges looked fun and were easily doable and so I set to the exciting challenge of picking out my books.
