Top 5 Wednesday: Favourite Magical Creatures

Top 5 Wednesday: Favourite Magical Creatures

Every Wednesday I use the topic from this Goodreads Group to make a Top 5 list. This week’s topic is ‘Summer Reads’, I used this as a topic for a normal blog post last week (you can see my recommendations here). Instead, I have decided to talk about my favourite magical creatures from the Harry Potter universe.

Unforgivable Curses

Unforgivable Curses

Harry Potter is always on my mind. Today is the eighteenth anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts and I want to talk about Unforgivable Curses. We remember learning about the Unforgivables in our fourth year at Hogwarts. I was horrified when the supposed Professor Moody demonstrated the uses of each on poor, unsuspecting spiders. While I firmly believe that there is no such thing as an innocent spider (find out exactly how I feel here), I don’t think any creature deserves to be treated like that.

Harry’s Invisibility Cloak

Harry’s Invisibility Cloak

Today I would like to talk about something that has been plaguing me for years. It’s generally accepted that Harry’s invisibility cloak is a hallow, so here is a quote explaining its properties:

Top 5 Wednesday: Books I Didn’t Finish

Top 5 Wednesday: Books I Didn’t Finish

Another Wednesday, another topic. This week’s theme fresh from Goodreads is Books I Didn’t Finish. If I’m finding a book boring, I’m generally happy to toss it aside and start something new. It doesn’t happen very often but life is too short to read boring books. A few unfinished books, however, have left me feeling rather embarrassed. I have decided to list those books today, in order of shamefulness.

Harry Potter and the Multiple Re-reads

Harry Potter and the Multiple Re-reads

I often re-read my favourite books, sometimes three or four times, but nothing compares to my alarming number of Harry Potter re-reads. I read them over and over again, year after year. I once read them start to finish three times in a row and I’ve read my favourite one, Prisoner of Azkaban, over thirty times (a lot of those where within the space of a year). Needless to say, I am a Harry Potter fanatic and glad to be so.
