Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads group with a new topic every week. This week is books that feature time travel. So here are my top five, in no particular order:
Landline by Rainbow Rowell … This is a wonderful magical realism story that features a telephone that can ring the past. I particularly loved that it took the protagonist a while to figure out that anything was wrong with the phone.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K.Rowling … The time turner may be used to save Sirius and Buckbeak but the main reason I love this is that Hermione is manipulating time just so that she can take extra classes.
Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs … This book features ‘bubbles’ of space that re-live the same day over and over again in order to isolate them from the rest of the world. I found this seriously fascinating.
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer … In this series, the fairies of the Lower Elements can stop time over a small area. This used to be done with magic but is now accomplished with science.
The Restaurant at the Edge of the Universe by Douglas Adams … There is lots of time travel in the Hitchhiker’s series but my favourite is how the Restaurant at the End of the Universe oscillates backwards and forwards across the moment the universe ends. Seriously cool.
Okay, so that’s my list. Hope you enjoyed reading.
